Three Women 36x48
When I lived in Tahlequah, Oklahoma with my grandmother, we used blankets
made by local Cherokee Indians. I don’t remember the exact designs, but they
were colorful. I played with Lizzy’s little girl, Wennie. Sometimes Lizzy
and my grandmother would hunt in the woods for herbs, Polk weed and dandelion
greens, and they looked for mussels from the river, which was usually
muddy red. The center figure looks like my grandmother. She was a wise woman and
loved nature. I attended the one-room school house up the mountain which
was taught by Miss Nan.
